Apologies for the delay!

Working out of town always seems to mean there is something to get done all waking hours.

A few items from this trip:

  • Because gas prices are per-gallon here, small shifts in gas price are not noticed by the populace at all. No sane person is going to drive 3 miles to the next gas station for save 3 cents per gallon (times 15 gallons = 45 cents, which is less than that 3 miles will cost you).
  • The ‘Neverlost’ GPS product from Hertz is definitely useful, but it does have flaws. In Pensacola the GPS attempted to send me down a one-way street. In Foley Alabama, I tried to find a few things and as far as I can tell the database is a couple years out of date. Restaurants and entertainment venues change constantly and the data that Hertz provides needs to be continually updated. It also tried to get me to places that could never have existed…yesterday I was directed to cross a deep water-filled ditch to get to a place to get my hair cut. The street didn’t continue through. As it turned out, that barber was no longer there, having been replaced by a gas station.

The GPS unit has helped a lot, but it can’t replace other resources or common sense entirely.
